Madea Goes To Jail

Last weekend, I went to the movie theaters and saw Madea Goes to Jail. It was a funny movie and as always, Tyler Perry has a message. His message in this movie was forgiveness. Tyler Perry, the director, often cameos on his projects and is, in fact, Madea. A gender issue I have noticed in his movies is the fact that the leading woman is always in some sort of distress. Whether it is the woman being put out by her husband (Diary of a Mad Black Woman), cheating on her husband (Family that Prays) or had a tough life and made mistakes (Madea Goes to Jail). Either way, the woman is in distress. At the same token, the leading man becomes the "Knight in shining armor" and saves the woman from her distress. This makes me think that Tyler Perry must infer that women are somehow needing a man to take care of them and to save them from the ills of the world.

House Bunny

I was watching the movie house bunny and it displayed alot of femininity issues. The main character Shelley is the over exaggerated persona of what society at large think of when it comes to women. She is ditzy and and beautiful. Pretty much that is what guys think of her. This is terrible because it puts into poeple's minds how women are even though this is not accurate. Movies like this really opens my eyes to the fact that we as a society we allow movies like this to play.

Dr.Phil Show

I was watching the Dr.Phil show today. It was one parents who kids are out of control. In most cases, Dr.Phil seems to deem the man as the disciplinarian or supposed to be the disciplinarian. The woman seems to be singled out as having to be more nurturing. It seems to put men and women in gender roles instead of emphasizing the importance of shared responsibility of both parents. In one case, the roles seemed switched because the man was being more nurturing and left the woman to be the one in control of the children's discipline. In my opinion I think that both parents should share responsibility of the discipline and nurturing of the children. Just because someone is of a certain sex, does not mean that they are pigeon-holed into a certain role.
