The Game

I was watching the Game and the main characters were arguing over dominanace in the household. The female felt disinfranchised because her husband took control over everything and didnt offer to give her any say so. In the end he realizes that their relationship was 50/50 and he became more understanding. This shows how in society men always think they need to be in charge but fail to realize that there is a shift in power from just the men to both women and men.

One on One

I was viewing the show One on One and the epidsode was about Brianna, the main character, getting a job. She tried to apply to a job in which she recited lines form different movies. The only problem was that the man hiring her would not hire her because her breats were not big enough. It is only when she makes herself have bigger breasts is when she was able to gain this job. This shows how in society, all men care about is woman's looks rather than what else they could offer.

Fresh Prince of Bel Aire

I was watching the fresh prince of bel air and the epidsode had Will Smith appear like he was weak. His girlfriend beat up this guy that was bothering her and Will Smith just coward. He decided to make himself look tough by setting up a robbery in which he beats up the robber; however, it ends up that the robbery was real and Will didn't know it. In conclusion it shows how the male mind can not take the fact that it is okay to be weak.

Love and Basketball

I viewed love and basketball recently and ive noticed alot of gender identity issues in it. Monica ( played by sanaa lathan) is critized by her mother for being tomboyish. Her mother was the epidemy of feminitiy, she was a housewife and very girly in nature. Instead of caring for Monica for who she is, a female that is tomboyish, she tried in everyway to get her to change her personality or style.

Meet the Kardashians

I was watching the Kardashians and i notcied that the girls have alot of expectations. They all suppose to have something going for themselves and they shouldn't be in trouble, however, Khloe seems to find herself in trouble lately. After getting her DUI, she never showed up to any of the meetings required and ended up going to jail. When she got released because the jail was too full, her family celebrated by taking her drinking. It seems as though girls with money like her is not expected to be perfect, therefore, she gets off easy when she gets in trouble.

First 48 hours

I was watching The first 48 hours the other day, and i came across an example of femininity. The woman was accused of murdering her boyfriend because she was found in the bathroom after he was discovered. Since she had prior offenses to the law and she was a crack head, they automatically assumed that she killed him for money. Set up a robbery that went wrong. If it was a man it would be a different motive for the killing of the other. People automatically assume that since she was a female, she was needy. I found that fact interesting because when you first look at it, you do not get that impression.

Madea Goes To Jail

Last weekend, I went to the movie theaters and saw Madea Goes to Jail. It was a funny movie and as always, Tyler Perry has a message. His message in this movie was forgiveness. Tyler Perry, the director, often cameos on his projects and is, in fact, Madea. A gender issue I have noticed in his movies is the fact that the leading woman is always in some sort of distress. Whether it is the woman being put out by her husband (Diary of a Mad Black Woman), cheating on her husband (Family that Prays) or had a tough life and made mistakes (Madea Goes to Jail). Either way, the woman is in distress. At the same token, the leading man becomes the "Knight in shining armor" and saves the woman from her distress. This makes me think that Tyler Perry must infer that women are somehow needing a man to take care of them and to save them from the ills of the world.
